We do not intend to delve deeply into the two-way Radio, only a bird eye view. We would want to accept the fact that it is one of the developmental stages of the mobile cell phone as we know it today especially in the form of the hand held walkie talkie. While a broadcast receiver (Receiver Radio) can only receive broadcast content only, the two-way Radio can receive and also transmit content. In other words it is a transceiver.
I raised my eyebrows in questioning response. Elaine explained that she and Tom had defined "blue jobs" and "pink jobs" - and, predictably, she did only the pink jobs. Also predictably, those jobs matched up pretty well with stereotypic "women's work". Cooking, provisioning, keeping the boat clean (including taking care of mold and mildew when it showed up), taking care of finances, and handling written and communication motorola radios were some of the tasks that Elaine enumerated for me. Among other things, blue areas encompassed anything mechanical and metal with moving parts-putting such things as propane connections firmly in Tom's camp. Tough communication walkie talkies situations fall into people's laps all the time. For young John Conner, it was a microphone and a lot of people looking direction. For someone else it might be delivering on a deal requiring three times the available resources and headcount. For another it might mean getting a job in this struggling economy with no degree, too many grey hairs or some other perceived obstacle. Owners of hybrid radios should be aware that in the United States of America it is illegal to operate on channels 15-22 without an FCC GMRS license. Most radio manufacturers do not motorola make this sufficiently clear to customers. Consequently, this can cause unlawful interference to GMRS licensees. As GMRS licenses cost money to obtain, such interference is a source of frustration for duly-licensed operators. At motorola walkie talkies first I thought this division of labor ridiculous. Blue and pink? How sexist! Over time, though, as I thought about that conversation, I saw method in the surface madness. Thinking about my own experience, I realized that my cruising partner and I had implicitly divided our jobs along similar lines. I was responsible for basic homemaking stuff - like cooking, cleaning, laundry, keeping water tanks filled - as well as being the primary radio operator, family communicator, and business manager. He took care of the engine, the sailing systems, the outboard, the electrical system, and he made sure all of our electronics stayed in working order. We just hadn't acknowledged our division of labor like Tom and Elaine had. CHIEF: I took on a gig with a radio broadcasting studio in Hollywood and worked out of their Orange County sub station in 1999. I trained new DJs and was allowed to air my show on Saturdays at 3PM Pacific Time. The actual station was a low power outfit, but the shows were being broadcast on the Internet as well in the days when the medium of Webcasting was just getting its feet wet. One application of two way radios is for emergency crews such as police and firemen. Most likely you've seen televisions shows such as Law & Order or Cops, where the authorities use two way radios to connect to others in law enforcement or emergency situations. Again, the importance of a two radio in these situations is that cell phone technologies and other communication technologies might not be as stable or as effective as two way radio technology. The brand is one of the things that you should consider in buying a cellphone. Some people are loyal to certain brands, while others love to explore different brands. The battery life is good. I carry Cobra microTALK 25Mile 2 way Radio with me all day, and then put both units into the dual charger at the end of the day. Next morning, they are both fully charged.
